“At the still point of the turning world. Neither flesh nor fleshless;
Neither from nor towards; at the still point, there the dance is,
But neither arrest nor movement. And do not call it fixity,
Where past and future are gathered. Neither movement from nor towards,
Neither ascent nor decline. Except for the point, the still point,
There would be no dance, and there is only the dance.”
― T.S. Eliot
Through an investigation of geological (transformative) processes, the materiality of stone and its vertiginous perspective of time, Excavation Series I and II approaches the human body’s ability to create change. Focusing on the prerequisites of movement, Anna Pehrsson peels back layers and folds to reveal where it origins, its points of generation and how they are propagated in bodies and space.
Excavation Series I and II is organized as a multidirectional mass – at once a hot liquid and rock lurking around the corner – a comet’s tail blasting through the skies – and a thin layer of evaporated water reaching the pores. Light thins out to darkness, body resonates sound, and grinding becomes seeping, a noise of that which is called existence.
